So why do most brick and mortar businesses fail? Why do we see more and more "Out of Business" signs instead of "Come on in, we're

open!" on the doors of our neighborhood stores?  It's not because these businesses have a bad product or service. It's not about (some will disagree with this) the location.

Here's the problem:

These business owners have a traffic problem! They don't know how to get costumers in their doors or to their websites!! The continue to use newspapers, local magazines and word of mouth to get people to their stores.

Cue the horse and buggy! These methods are so old and are killing businesses. Why?

1. The paper industry is DYING!! Newspaper companies, post offices and other companies that use large quantities of paper are going out of business. Who uses paper anymore? With the internet continuing to gain power and more public view, newspapers and magazines are being ignored. Not to mention placing ads in newspapers and magazines CAN be more expensive than doing some simple strategies on the internet.

2. Word of mouth? Word of mouth isn't like it used to be. Now, it just takes one bad experience to create a chain of negative instances to drive away costumers. Word of mouth can spread like wildfire. But more and more people these days have a bad attitude with the way things are going in their life because of the economy and it's becoming easier for these people to place blame on others.

So what's the solution?

Brick and mortar business owners need to start thinking outside the box and implementing strategies and techniques by using the internet. This WILL cut down on the 70-80 hour work weeks that most business owners are now working.

The internet can be leveraged by brick and mortar businesses to have a very powerful presence on the internet- if they know how to do it. Right now, there is NO competition on the internet for a local brick and mortar business in your neighborhood. If there is, then some business owner just beat you to the punch. But it's not too late for you!

This is the 21st century. Wake up! In order to run a profitable business, it is a MUST to learn internet marketing strategies to keep costumers coming to your business or website. Then that one bad experience by a costumer, shouldn't hurt you a bit if you know what you are doing to run a profitable business.
